Philippines National Day Celebrated in Islamabad by Ambassador Ms Maria Agnes

Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines in Pakistan , Ms Maria Agnes M. Cervantes hosted a grand and beautiful reception on the National Day of her great country in Islamabad on 12 June 2024 at Marriott Hotel that was a memorable event in the capital city in this month. The event marked the 126th anniversary of the Philippines’ independence that is a significant milestone in the history of the country.
Philippines declared independence on June 12, 1898. The nation celebrates this day as the new era of self-determination. Philippines commemorate the sacrifices and bravery of their forefathers who fought for the survival of their nation, culture, history and above all their pride and sovereignty.
The celebration highlighted the Philippines’ progress and unity as a nation.The theme of this year’s celebration was ‘Freedom, Future, and History’. Ambassador Cervantes explained that these three words captured the essence of the festivities.
Federal Minister Maritime Affairs, Qaisar Ahmad Sheikh was the chief guest. Syed Mushahid Hussain, former Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defense , Zamur Khan, former MNA and Chairman Pakistan Sweet Homes, the shelters for orphan children in Pakistan graced the event with their presence.
The Minister congratulated people and government of Philippines on their national day and expressed keenness of Pakistan to enhance political relations as well as trade and economic cooperation with Philippines.
Ambassador  Maria Agnes M. Cervantes, in her keynote address shed light on the history of independence and development of her country and the nation.
She said, “This special event allows us to honour the bravery, resilience and unwavering spirit of our forefathers, who fought for the freedom we hold dear today.Freedom signifies the hard-earned liberty our ancestors achieved for us. The future represents our determination to build a prosperous nation, and history reflects our rich past.
“Our fight for freedom demonstrated our unwavering spirit and desire for self-determination. Despite many challenges, we have always emerged stronger, remaining committed to justice. We are reminded of our responsibilities as guardians of the freedom our ancestors fought for. It is our duty to preserve this legacy by promoting unity, fostering peace and working for the common good, She continued.

Ms Cervantes expressed gratitude for the warm and hospitable environment provided by the host country, Pakistan. This year also marked the 75th anniversary of Philippines-Pakistan relations, highlighting the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
“Over the past seven and a half decades, our countries have built strong diplomatic ties grounded in mutual respect, shared values and commitment to bilateral cooperation. This enduring partnership has fostered economic collaboration, cultural exchange and mutual support for the international order, Ambassador shared.
She extended her embassy’s gratitude to the people of Pakistan for their friendship and support, looking forward to many more years of fruitful collaboration and solidarity.
“This friendship is crucial in realising that building a brighter future is a collective responsibility. Together with the international community, the Philippines believe in peace in the world. We ensure that the legacy of the past inspires our future,” Ambassador Cervantes concluded.
The grand hall of the hotel was packed with the guests from different walks of life including government, military officials of Pakistan and other countries. ASEAN family in Islamabad was also present to celebrate the auspicious day of their Chair (Philippines) in Islamabad Committee.
The cultural performance of the Philippines artists enthralled the guests. They were wearing the traditional dresses that were source of attraction for the audience who appreciated them with big applause.
